My love for sweet will never melt away. Cloying food is like a heartbeat of my body. And for me my every time food is incomplete without dessert India is country where sweets and desserts has a special place in people life. And in India eating sweets after launch and dinner is like a tradition or culture. Be it anyone marriage, birthday or family gathering and any other special occasion sweets will be the thing on anyone mind. And specially in my mind. Dessert have an amazing charm that draws even the not -so-tooth. Therefore, even if you aren’t much of a sweet tooth.
As a Indian, I like Punjabi sweets more than chocolate, cake, candy and listed some favorite Punjabi sweets.
- Shakkar Para – A great accompaniment to tea, it can also be snacked on when you’re craving something a little sweet. Made from semolina and flour, it is light and not overly sweet. For those with a sweeter tooth, these can be coated in coarse sugar or desecrated coconut for a different flavour. These can be just as easily made at home and stored for 2-3 weeks to keep munching on! It is deep fried Punjabi Food so do be careful of how many you munch on.
- Lassi-A drink known far and wide, lassi is something Punjabi’s pride themselves in. Though it can be salty, the original lassi as it became famous, is sweet with a dollop of cream and butter to make it as rich as you can. Flavours like mango rose or strawberry are added these days to give it a twist while beating the summer heat. Almost all restaurants serve this even if they’re not Punjabi joints which show the popularity of this humble drink.
- Gajar ka halwa-A very attractive way of eating carrots, gajjar ka halwa is another very popular Indian sweet dish in the northern and central parts of India. Originated in Punjab, it is usually made during the winter months and is a delight to have. Made out of carrot, milk, sugar and nuts it is cooked on a slow burner until the milk dries out leaving a mouth watering sweet dish to have post meal. Gajjar ka Halwa is a North Indian speciality with Punjab being the best place to have Gajjar ka Halwa on a cold winter evening.
- Pinni – While eaten as a dessert, this is a dish mainly prepared in winter. It is made with desi ghee, wheat flour, jaggery and almonds – the ingredients give a lot of heat and energy during winter. While it is delicious, this dish from Punjab should be eaten in small quantities given the richness of it lest you fall sick! Some people don’t even treat it as a dessert but take it to be just another nutritional supplement – just Punjabi things.Sweets is sign of celebration in everyone life it make little special moment to more special. And my food is totally incomplete without sweet food. By having sweets make your occasion more special and memorable.
